WOOT- WOOT -WOOT

Welcome  to the 3rd Annual

CANADA...What can I say?
It's North--way north--of where I'm at in Music City.
I found out some fun facts though.

1. The Stanley Cup has its own bodyguard but don't think the cup hasn't seen all sorts of "things" being dumped inside

2. Forget candles. British Columbian pioneers made use of the oolichan, also called candlefish, at nighttime. The small fish is so fatty that it can be dried, strung on a wick, and Voila!

3. Where did Canada come up with it's name. A MISTAKE. Some manly misunderstanding between Jacques Cartier (no not the jewelry company) and a young Iroquis dude. The word for village is “Kanata”. Cartier then used the "Canada" to not only describe Quebec but the whole country.

4. The country is filled with snakes...the Narcisse Snake. There are dens in Manitoba have tons of these red-sided snakes.

5. Canada’s geese have their own language including 13 various ways to greet, warn, and relay joy. Sure the official "people" languages may be French and English but who knew the animals were so smart in Canada.,

FINALLY!!!

6. Canada has it's version of the Loch Ness monster. A mysterious lake creature dwelling in Lake Okanagan in British Columbia going by the name of Ogopogo.

This is such a great hop, Canadian literature needs a lot more appreciation I think :) (I'm from Europe myself.)

Hey Susan,
I love your fun facts about Canada. I happen to live in Ottawa (Canada's Capital) and I live just outside of Kanata, one of the areas in Ottawa. How's that for coincidence? I used to live in Kanata, but we wanted more space so moved a few mile away. I must say, the geese can sometimes be a pain especially when they stop traffic to cross the road. *sigh*. Merci beaucoup for participating! Bonne journée mon amie!

Enjoy your holiday! I'm from another part of the world so no Canada day for me, heh ;) But I'd sure like to visit it though.
