While waiting in line, build your author platform in your head.

How to sell, without sounding like you're trying to sell. Author platforms require subtle tactics.
Build it and they will...not show up even if invited.
Nets won't work.
Hand-cuffs, maybe but
unless you've written the next Fifty Shades, that's a don't stop, go directly to jail.

You wrote the book but how to get a visitor worth a snit?
Let's get a little Freudian, shall we?

As in emotions. Begin with the basics.
COLOR.

As if you were building a house or building. A sacred spot or the parking lot for a drive-in movie (I do miss them!), does not matter. At some point you've got to think about the fundamentals and that involves c-o-l-o-r.

Cue the rolling eyes. Aha, yeah. You can stop that right now, sir...in the back row. In marketing, more than anywhere else it involves swaying others to take a peek, invitation alone, heck a smack on the head isn't enough. Considering the competition, you'd better get on your game. Pretty words are nice, but it's the reptilian brain we've got to conquer.

People need coaxing to enter a doorway. Whether in real life or on the web. How? If you aren't a graphic artist or designer, it is easy to get overwhelmed.

Try Pinterest on for size. If you haven't visited Pinterest of late or never, I suggest you do. And use search terms like palettes, graphic arts, graphic artists, web design, and marketing. You can open your eyes to possibilities.

Whether or not, you pin what you like is up to you. Yeah, there are copyright issues, but if someone invites you to pin their stuff, hopefully they won't change their mind in the future. But still, it doesn't hurt to look and start to think about what draws you. And why?

Color. It's all around us. But more importantly it is a viable factor that we can control to draw visitors a little closer. And then them WAM!
Knock 'em over with your enticing prose, your captivating scenes, your enthralling wit.

Just remember, you first have to get them to look.

This week, we'll discuss how to get a make-over without breaking the bank. If you're visiting on your mobile device, you'll see some new stuff on the next go round around here.
