Today is the last day of the PAWS WITH A CAUSE BLOG HOP AND GIVEAWAY.

PLEASE TAKE A MOMENT, YEAH IT'S FRIDAY AND EVERYONE IS BUSY but there are some people who need us.

PEOPLE WHO HAVE ARE ALONE, WITHOUT MEANS, AND NEED A FRIEND.

Please take a moment to donate a buck, a few bucks or a whole lot of bucks to the Paws With a Cause organization. Matching people with a dog, a chance for companionship, and connection. Give from the heart and wallet. Every little bit helps.

HOP ON OVER TO OTHER BLOGS, We're all giving away something to make your time worthwhile.

Leave me a comment below, telling me your favorite dog breed for a chance to win a $5.00 iTUNES card.
The winning breed will be featured in my next western, The Cowboy Rode a Harley.
Don't forget, I need your email address to send the gift card.
THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING!

Thanks for visiting and giving. I started out asking....Who controls the leash? Our hearts do.

Types of Paws With A Cause Assistance Dogs

PAWS Service Dogs are typically Labrador retrievers, golden retrievers, or retriever mixes. Our Hearing Dogs may be retriever breeds, or any number of small or mixed breeds. All dogs must pass a specialized temperament test and comprehensive health screening to enter PAWS training program.
Most PAWS dogs have been raised from puppyhood by a volunteer Foster Puppy Raiser, and many have been bred specifically for Assistance Dog work! Some of our dogs are donated by private individuals or breeders, while others may have been rescued from the many shelters and rescues we maintain relationships with. Occasionally, a client’s own dog may be trained as their Assistance Dog. The dog must be between 16 and 36 months old, of an approved breed, and able to pass extensive temperament and comprehensive health screenings.
As a national non-profit organization, PAWS relies heavily upon the generosity of donors who support the work we do for people with disabilities. Our clients pay no fee to apply for or to receive their Assistance Dog from PAWS. The sponsorship to train and place a PAWS Assistance Dogs is $30,000. PAWS allows and encourages clients to participate in fund raising activities. Our most successful clients are those who played an active role in their fund raising and placement process in their quest for independence.

  • Service Dogs (for a physical disability, debilitating chronic illness or neurological disorder)
  • Hearing Dogs (for the deaf or hard of hearing)
  • Seizure Response Dogs
  • Combination Dogs (service/hearing, service/seizure, hearing/seizure)
  • Service Dogs for Children with Autism
  • Social Support Dogs (in-home only companion)
 Service Dogs

PAWS Service Dogs are custom-trained to assist people with physical disabilities affecting one or more limbs, and are intended to assist with daily tasks to increase independence. A Service Dog can perform tasks such as pulling a manual wheelchair, opening doors, turning light switches on/off, or picking up an object as small as a dime. Should the client fall, the dog can even be trained to act as a brace to assist the person while they regain position.
PAWS has trained Service Dogs to assist people who have disabilities such as Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injuries, Arthritis, Muscular Dystrophy, ALS, Cerebral Palsy, and many other conditions which affect a person’s mobility and strength.

Hi, Susan. I know I'm too late for the poll, but just wanted to add my 2-cents in memory of my favorites. In addition to the beloved Labrador Retriever, Dobies and Rotts are wonderful, easy to train, and able to do nearly anything for you :-)
