“WHAT’S A STREET TEAM?” YOU ASK

Thursday, March 21, 2013

Let me introduce Y STREET TEAM SUSAN TAYLOR – SUSAN ARDENY

OKAY, so what is a street team? With quite a few scorching romance releases happening this year, my awesome promoter, Carla of Book Monster Promotions put one together for me. But now, I’m putting out a call to help my street team of ubber-wonderful ladies: Carla, Tracie, Lindsey, FranJessca, Holly, Anna, Michelle, and Kelly.

Things are starting to heat up, and we need help.

Did you ask, but seriously what’s a street team?

Initially, I wondered too. Any person (above the age of 18) from all over the country, really all over the universe, with access to the Internet can join. What does a street team member do? Shout loud and proud about their author. That’s me.

What’s in it for a team member? Well, readers love to share. I know I do. And at this level, you’re truly helping a writer who is like a pin in a crazy mess of straw. Lucky for me, we’re a team and I’m all into making certain my street team is stocked up. So you get free stuff.

To begin with members only giveaways. Right now we’re starting with a random drawing for a Victoria’s Secret gift card of $25.00 for the month of March. Every month, there’s another random drawing. But it’s for members only.

Don’t forget swag! That’s right. I’ll share with my team members things like bookmarks, notebooks, pens, key chains, etc. And team members can share their swag with their friends, family, librarians…anyone who loves to read HOT romance.

If you’d like to learn more, go to the team’s Facebook page by clicking here.

This isn’t like a regular FB page. We’re searching for team members who want to be active and get that behind the scenes viewpoint of the craziness, the hot stinking mess of writing and promoting, and what it’s like being part of the publishing world in erotic and hot romance.

Perfect for writers who are starting out and want to know…hey, that’s me in the near future. A great way to learn the ropes of promotion from the inside.

Weekend Writing Warrior: TEMPTED BY TROUBLE

Tempted by Trouble
Contemporary Western with a KICK! Rated as sensual. Mmm. Dr. Carolina Rodriguez runs into her client, Matthew McLemore, literally, in the parking lot.
What she learns about the man sets her on fire. Only she didn't know at the time, he was her new boss. Now, they are introduced after the wedding of her cousin. Things heat up fast.

“Evermore Ranch,” she read aloud.

“I hope this won’t upset your plans?”

“Would it matter? I signed a service contract that included a non-disclosure agreement. Even if I had a problem, I couldn’t tell a soul and I’ve promised you two weeks of my time.”

He chuckled softly. “Yes, two weeks to do my bidding.”
She almost choked at the thought of doing his bidding. “What the heck have I gotten myself into with you, Mr. McLemore? Exactly what type of office do you run?”

NaNoWriMo 2012 Entry Gets Contracted...Now what?

Wednesday, March 13, 2013

I think writers have totally different goals going into NaNo. No duh!

There's the writer who loves the challenge, the writer who just wants to start the process, the writer who does NaNa every year, and a million variations in between.

For me, going into NaNo, I'd already had a contract and wanted to see  if it was possible to write a manuscript within NaNo that would get picked up or sold.

There's a very different outlook from that vantage point.

It means writing toward a goal, and not stopping once it's over (50K). It means already knowing what market the MS will be shopped. Beginning writers like myself make frequent mistakes in thinking all markets and publishers are alike. They are absolutely so different. If a writer wants to make their MS a commercial piece, then he/she can help the process by setting the following goals:
1. Genre requirements - that includes POV, plot points, character arcs.
2. Who to market: Match publishing house with writer voice and style. ALL ARE DIFFERENT.
3. Edit: Not during but after. EDIT, EDIT, EDIT
That means content and grammar. Structure is more important than grammar any day of the week. 4. Work your craft. Improve by reading craft books, articles, and the genre you write. If you read stellar work, the brain is a sponge and begins to formulate the same type of language.
5. Have fun. Enjoy this process. Whether you write from a detailed linear synopsis, fly by the seat of your pants, or write from the heart.

I'm starting NaNoWriMo Wednesday.
Each week, something different on what you can do to sell
that MS.
Whiners and complainers get lost.
This is for tough-minded writers with a serious goal:
submit your manuscript and get a contract.
It's that simple.

I'm one of those opinionated people that come off as arrogant. Really I think I'm passionate about the few things I believe in. One of them is having a goal and seeing it through. Talking the talking and walking the walking mean a lot from where I come from. With NaNo it's more than a hobby. I wanted to become a professional writer. Dreams to come true!

Types of Paws With A Cause Assistance Dogs

PAWS Service Dogs are typically Labrador retrievers, golden retrievers, or retriever mixes. Our Hearing Dogs may be retriever breeds, or any number of small or mixed breeds. All dogs must pass a specialized temperament test and comprehensive health screening to enter PAWS training program.
Most PAWS dogs have been raised from puppyhood by a volunteer Foster Puppy Raiser, and many have been bred specifically for Assistance Dog work! Some of our dogs are donated by private individuals or breeders, while others may have been rescued from the many shelters and rescues we maintain relationships with. Occasionally, a client’s own dog may be trained as their Assistance Dog. The dog must be between 16 and 36 months old, of an approved breed, and able to pass extensive temperament and comprehensive health screenings.
As a national non-profit organization, PAWS relies heavily upon the generosity of donors who support the work we do for people with disabilities. Our clients pay no fee to apply for or to receive their Assistance Dog from PAWS. The sponsorship to train and place a PAWS Assistance Dogs is $30,000. PAWS allows and encourages clients to participate in fund raising activities. Our most successful clients are those who played an active role in their fund raising and placement process in their quest for independence.

  • Service Dogs (for a physical disability, debilitating chronic illness or neurological disorder)
  • Hearing Dogs (for the deaf or hard of hearing)
  • Seizure Response Dogs
  • Combination Dogs (service/hearing, service/seizure, hearing/seizure)
  • Service Dogs for Children with Autism
  • Social Support Dogs (in-home only companion)
 Service Dogs

PAWS Service Dogs are custom-trained to assist people with physical disabilities affecting one or more limbs, and are intended to assist with daily tasks to increase independence. A Service Dog can perform tasks such as pulling a manual wheelchair, opening doors, turning light switches on/off, or picking up an object as small as a dime. Should the client fall, the dog can even be trained to act as a brace to assist the person while they regain position.
PAWS has trained Service Dogs to assist people who have disabilities such as Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injuries, Arthritis, Muscular Dystrophy, ALS, Cerebral Palsy, and many other conditions which affect a person’s mobility and strength.

WHY PETS? WHY ME? WHO CONTROLS THE LEASH?

Saturday, March 2, 2013

Ever since I can remember I’ve had pets.
No big deal. I’m just one of those people.
Working as a teacher in a class of special education students, trust was a big deal. Many times these children came into school from an abusive past. These children had egos as fragile as a soap bubble. How was it possible in as short a span as an hour to teach the subject matter (biology) and the hidden curriculum taking place within a class: respect, trust, humanity?

I found that classroom pets were the perfect choice. From leopard salamanders to rainbow boas, saltwater tanks to love birds, and then on special occasions, my dogs and cats. There is no possible way to adequately describe the expression on a child’s face that once feared his/her surroundings to find comfort in the companionship of an animal. I’ve seen aggressive, mute children blossom into smiling chatterboxes, coming into school early and stopping by the class to check on a pet.

Pets won’t solve many of the looming issues in a person’s life. Yet each animal that comes into contact with a person who is lonely, hurting, or in need of a connection...this link builds each time they are together.

Nowadays, I no longer teach but I’ve still got an entourage of animals. When we go out for a walk it’s not just the dogs but the cats come too. Who controls the leash? Our hearts. For that is the body part connected to these animals.

PLEASE GIVE A LITTLE FROM YOUR HEART TO ENSURE THOSE IN NEED HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO ALLEVIATE LONELINESS, OVERCOME ISOLATION, AND FIND A COMPANION TO LEASH TO THEIR HEARTY.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE POST BELOW FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO TAKE PART IN THE BLOG HOP TO RAISE AWARENESS AND FUNDING FOR PAWS WITH A CAUSE.
THANK YOU.
